Australian War Memorial Project, ACT

Client / Architect: Australian War Memorial / FJC Studio

Scale / Style: 1:500 Conceptual Competition model

Materials: CNC machined timber, patinated brass, painted acrylics, magnets

Kinkfab was commissioned by FJMT Architects to produce a physical model for a significant expansion to the iconic Australian War Memorial in Canberra.

  • The model was used for two separate design competitions; 1) the new Southern entrance to the building and 2) a new connection/extension to the existing award winning Anzac Hall by Denton Corker Marshall Architects.

The model splits down the centre of the site (revealing the existing Hall of Memory) so that each proposal can be presented individually, and then join together to form one single model. The existing War Memorial is CNC machined out of solid brass which is then treated with a ‘weathered’ patina and the surrounding topography is meticulously CNC milled out of a block of timber. Integrated magnets allow for the underground spaces to be revealed and micro cast metal figures add scale to the dominating landscape.
